Salary $19.00-$20.00 per hour ($39,520 – $41,600 per year) plus benefits
Reports to Project Manager, Leadership Development
Status Full Time; Non-Exempt

POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Leadership Development Component encompasses workshops, peer leader training, service learning and youth led events, and action plans to enhance and increase awareness of community issues. The Program Specialist will support Young Asian Women Against Violence (YAWAV) and the District 7 Youth Council (D7YC). YAWAV is committed to prevent violence against Asian girls and young women, particularly dating /domestic violence and sexual assault. Along with the Project Coordinator, the Program Assistant will support a team of young Asian women peer leaders (ages 15-18) as they participate in intensive training, produce multilingual educational materials, outreach and educate schools and communities. The D7YC is made up of members ranging from high school to college students (age 13-23). The members discuss issues affecting residents of San Francisco’s District 7 and will propose projects to address issues in the district, draft proposal legislation that affect youth as they gain a better understanding of how City government works, how the Board of Supervisors operates, as well as neighborhood issues affecting District 7. The Program Specialist will train participants in leadership, facilitation, policy research, event planning and community organizing skills.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop workshops and activities that engage youth to learn through hands-on activities to build high quality life skills, resilience, growth mindset, peer leadership, public policy, and legislative processes
  • Develop curriculum that exposes youth to community engagement, allyship, and youth voice as a way to create positive social change
  • Support youth-led projects that include critical analysis, planning, design and reflection to empower the community through action plans, service learning projects, youth summits, and resolution proposals
  • Attend appropriate conferences and events with youth
  • Outreach and build relationships with community organizations to collaborate on community projects
  • Prepare program documentation and reports
  • Other duties as assigned by management

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS

  • Commitment to youth and development of their leadership potential
  • Experience in advocacy, leadership development, and mentorship
  • Strong group management and facilitation skills preferred
  • Bilingual/ biliterate in English and an Asian language
  • Excellent organizational and presentation skills
  • Knowledgeable of San Francisco’s Asian and Pacific Islander communities
  • Bachelor’s degree in related fields
  • Ability to work some evenings and weekends
