POSITION DESCRIPTION

CYC’s Job Readiness for English Language Learners (JRELL) Program focuses on uplifting and motivating youth ages 14-24 with limited English language skills. Under the supervision of the Project Manager, the JRELL Program Coordinator will provide youth with proper tools to improve their English speaking skills, job readiness skills and vocational training, individualized job search support, job development, on-the-job coaching, on-going work-based vocational assessment, and raise awareness about employment opportunities for a successful future.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversee the development and implementation of the Job Readiness for English Language Learners (JRELL) Program
  • Target city-wide outreach and recruitment focusing on English Language Learners between ages of 14-24
  • Develop curriculum and facilitate vocational training workshops including resume writing, job interview skill-building, and strength/talent identification to meet program learning objectives
  • Recruit worksites to host program participants for subsidized internships and provide support to volunteer worksite supervisors
  • Provide personal and vocational guidance for youth using vocational and interest assessments, and develop individualized vocational goals and plans with participants
  • Providing case management and referral service to high-need youth and young adults, assisting with job placement and milestone verification
  • Counseling participants in resolving personal issues that may affect work/school performance
  • Maintain up-to-date list of available jobs that are appropriate for youth
  • Cultivate relationships with employers, developing jobs for youth and young adults
  • Complete all required written documentation and reports
  • Refer youth to appropriate services within CYC or other agencies
  • Supporting program-wide events
  • Other duties as assigned by management
  • Prepare program participants for subsidized employment at nonprofit, public, and private sector placement
  • Attend mandatory meetings and trainings for the benefit of the program and staff
  • Act as a liaison and collaborate with other service providers

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four-year College or University or minimum 2+ years’ experience delivering workforce development programs
  • Bilingual in English AND Cantonese/Mandarin
  • Experience facilitating workshops for high school and TAY aged youth
  • Ability to work with ethnically diverse groups of low-income youth as well as English
  • Language Learners to support their social and emotional needs during transition
  • Experience working with San Francisco's diverse communities and neighborhoods
  • Experience working with community-based service providers and private sector partners
  • Ability to work as part of a team to prioritize and handle multiple tasks, and to work
  • Experience in conducting interviews and assessments with youth and parents
  • Experience working with community-based service providers and private sector partners

  • Familiarity with job-seeking and job coaching skills
  • Demonstrated effective organization and facilitation skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Competency with PC-based software including Microsoft Office
  • Strong organizational and collaboration skills
  • Able to lift or move at least 25lbs
  • Willingness to work some evenings and weekends and at outdoor activities
  • Ability to create a fun and safe environment for the youth
  • Ability to pass TB health clearance and fingerprint clearance from the Department of Justice and FBI
