NEN Awards 2019 Youth Neighborhood Leadership: Jiayi Wang

Karry Jiayi Wang

Congratulations to our very own Karry Jiayi Wang for being selected as one of 13 award recipient for this year’s 11th Annual NEN Awards! The Awards is the City’s official celebration of neighborhood heroes and a way of honoring and celebrating the work of residents and organizations who make San Francisco an amazing place to live.

Karry’s award was in the Youth Neighborhood Leadership category, in recognition for her leadership and involvement with CYC for the past four years. She began her involvement with the Bayview Youth Advocates program where she soon became a peer leader and peer advisor. Soon after, she joined the Youth for Community Engagement program at Thurgood Marshall High School where she is a student. Her leadership capabilities and passion for volunteering in the community led to her being appointed as the school’s YCE Club President. She has led disaster preparedness classes in the community for monolingual Chinese speaking residents, participated in conducting monthly visits to seniors to provide activities and trainings, and volunteered for many CYC community events.

Karry will be presented with her award on Wednesday, February 6th, in the City Hall Rotunda, from 6-8 pm. For more information on NEN and to reserve a free ticket to the awards, go to http://www.empowersf.org/nen-awards-2019/
