Reconnecting with the community

This past Friday, our Youth for Community Engagement (YCE) program held its annual luncheon, celebrating (in this case) 50 years of inspiring youth to reach their highest potential through community life here in San Francisco. The luncheon recognized all the wonderful ways youth reconnected with community, after a year of social distancing and virtual activities.

Exercising good care, but no longer sheltering in place, YCE youth returned to doing community service in person—visiting senior buildings, volunteering at community-based events, teaching disaster preparedness classes, cleaning up parks and beaches, and planting trees in local neighborhoods. It was a year we’ll cherish. As we connect with our heritage, our community, and each other, we wish YCE another 50 years of success strengthening connections between youth and the community.
