Youth Unity Mural
“Youth Unity Mural” is a community-driven art collaboration in the Bayview between San Francisco African American Arts and Culture District, Chinese Culture Center, Bayview YMCA, and CYC. Participants from our Bayview Youth Advocates (BYA) program spent their summer project working on the art piece. Using a selection process, the group chose Helice Wen and Kalani Ware as the lead artists. Helice and Kalani sought ideas from the youth on what the mural design should incorporate. Themes of racial solidarity and unity were the most important to the group. Using a collaborative approach, the artists and youth came up with the final mural design and worked together over the summer to paint it. The mural is located at 5012 3rd Street.
