A Message From Community Youth Center’s Executive Director

Dear CYC Supporters,

These are uncertain times that we are all living in. The impact of COVID-19 on our lives has been extensive and generational. Like every organization, CYC has been deeply affected by COVID-19, resulting in the reassessment of all our programs and closures of our offices. In response to the changing landscape, CYC pivoted our operations to continue remotely by embracing technology. The use of technology such as Google Hangouts, Zoom, WeChat, and text messaging has been keeping our staff, youth, and the families we serve connected and engaged in the past two weeks. While technology is providing the bridge, what is truly keeping us together is the strength of our staff’s passion and the connection that our youth and families have to our mission. It is the culture woven into the fabric of CYC that has been the glue throughout this process.

I’m proud to see how CYC has responded to unchartered waters. Our management team checks in formally on a weekly basis and daily with each other. There are also check-ins with program staff to ensure that they are getting the support they need to keep programs running remotely, but also making sure they put a priority on their well-being by practicing self-care. Most importantly our program staff continue to serve the youth and families in our community with remote workshops, projects, group and one-on-one check-ins. The youth and families will continue to be CYC’s priority as we continue to provide support and services.

Wishing good health and safety to everyone.

Sarah Wan,

Executive Director
