Hearts and stomachs full at Craving Chinatown

We hosted our annual Chinatown food festival featuring over 30 eateries including desserts, savory appetizers, and unique tasty bites showcasing the best this community has to offer. Although this day was filled with food, sun (a rare treat in SF), and happy attendees, it was also full of the warmth and heart that makes this neighborhood so unique.

Michelin starred Mister Jiu’s (with a delectable smashed cucumber and Monterey Bay squid offering) participated alongside local eateries like Garden Bakery (serving fresh baked buns) that serve as pillars of the Chinatown community. Craving Chinatown proves that “if you build cook it, the people will come.”

Mayor Breed, Board of Supervisors President Aaron Peskin, and Assessor Joaquin Torres joined us for the feasting and said a few words about our community coming together.

“Craving Chinatown may look like a mere food festival but it really is a showcase of Chinatown’s dynamic culture, traditions and customs, as well as the community’s economic prowess,” said Board of Supervisors President Aaron Peskin, who represents Chinatown and District 3.

Our other community leaders and organizations came out to celebrate and put on quite a show—like a rousing lion dance by LionDanceMe and a martial arts demonstration by Yau Kung Moon Kung Fu, showing people new and familiar that this community is full of life.

Best of all and even better than the food, were our youth volunteering to make this all happen. Members from our youth programs helped serve, set up, clean up, and ensure that this event was a memorable day.

A special thanks to the key community members of SF who celebrated us. We can’t wait to see you at our upcoming community events.
