Youth in motion: summer at CYC
Summer is underway, and across San Francisco, CYC youth are stepping into programs filled with hands-on learning and joyful exploration. Students at Redding and Garfield Elementary Schools, and George Moscone Elementary School are reading, experimenting, and discovering the world around them through outdoor exploration, math games, and STEAM-based projects. Weekly field trips give them the chance to take what they’ve learned into the real world and have fun along the way.
In our Willie “Woo Woo” Wong Clubhouse and Aptos Beacon Center Programs, students are staying active and engaged through arts, fitness, and STEAM activities that encourage creativity and connection. With opportunities to explore new interests and build friendships, the energy is high and the possibilities feel wide open. Field trips and group projects bring added excitement, helping youth grow their confidence and sense of community.
At Balboa and SFI High Schools, students are using this summer to focus on their goals. Through academic enrichment, college and career readiness, and personal development opportunities, students are preparing for the future and reflecting on who they want to become. Supported by trusted staff and mentors, they’re building a foundation that will carry them into the next school year and beyond.

This summer also brought big wins for our Dragon Boat team, which recently returned from a successful trip to Vancouver—medals in hand. As San Francisco’s only community-based team, CYC Dragon Boat brings together youth from across the city, welcoming all experience levels and backgrounds. It’s a space where youth can learn new skills, build confidence, and grow alongside their peers. On July 26th, our team will compete at the 2025 Long Beach Dragon Boat Festival, one of the largest competitions in California. With this upcoming race on the horizon, our Dragon Boat team continues to move forward with focus and determination.

There’s still so much more to come this summer, and we can’t wait to share it with you. Stay connected and be the first to see what youth are up to next by signing up for our email newsletter. We’ll keep you in the loop with stories, events, and moments that show what community looks like in action.
