Celebrating Lunar New Year and Black History Month at CYC
February is a time of gathering and reflection at CYC. As Lunar New Year and Black History Month overlap, the month offers a meaningful opportunity to honor culture, history, and the connections that bring communities together. At CYC, these celebrations reflect an ongoing commitment to creating spaces where young people feel seen, valued, and connected across differences. Together, these events highlight a shared belief that cultural celebration is strengthened through collective participation and mutual respect.

Lunar New Year on Ocean Avenue
February 28 | 12:00–3:00 pm | Ocean Avenue
The following week, CYC will take part in the Lunar New Year Celebration on Ocean Avenue, a longstanding community event that brings the corridor to life. Celebrating the Year of the Horse, the afternoon will feature performances, arts activities, and opportunities for families to connect with local businesses and community organizations.
Known for its welcoming, family-centered atmosphere, the Ocean Avenue celebration reflects the strength of collaboration and care that defines the neighborhood.
We’re grateful to our sponsors for making this possible, San Francisco Office of Economic and Workforce Development (OEWD), District 11 Supervisor Chyanne Chen, District 7 Supervisor Myrna Melgar, Assemblymember Catherine Stefani, City College of San Francisco, Ocean Avenue Association, San Francisco Department of Children, Youth & Their Families, and San Francisco Mayor’s Office of Housing and Community Development.

Lunar New Year Parade
March 7 | 5:00–7:00 pm | 2nd and Market Street, San Francisco
CYC will also take part in San Francisco’s Chinese New Year Parade, with young people marching alongside community members in one of the city’s most cherished public celebrations. For CYC, the parade is a visible expression of youth leadership, cultural pride, and belonging in the shared life of the city.
The 2026 parade marks the Year of the Fire Horse, a symbol of passion, courage, and determination. These qualities reflect how young people show up across CYC programs every day; with energy, care, and a growing sense of responsibility to themselves and their communities.

Honoring culture, building connection
Together, these celebrations reflect what CYC works to foster year-round: spaces where culture is honored, histories are respected, and young people experience the value of showing up for one another. Celebrating Lunar New Year alongside Black History Month underscores the interconnected nature of San Francisco’s communities and the importance of building understanding across cultures.
These moments give young people opportunities to see themselves reflected, learn from one another, and experience connection in tangible ways. Whether through neighborhood gatherings or citywide celebrations, they help strengthen the sense of belonging that supports young people as they grow.
CYC looks forward to celebrating the Year of the Horse with partners, neighbors, and families and to continuing the work of building community across the city.
