Explore interest in civic engagement
CYC is currently seeking high school students who are interested in making an impact through civic engagement. Participants of the District 7 Youth Council (D7YC) meet and discuss issues affecting residents of District 7 and propose changes to address the issues. Previous youth have made huge impacts in their community building libraries, planting trees, and influencing public policy.
D7YC participants are trained in the areas of leadership, facilitation, policy research, event planning, and community organizing. Participants will gain a better understanding of how city government and the Board of Supervisors operate. There are special opportunities to meet with City Department staff and community stakeholders to learn more about current issues and policy.
Eligibility:
- High school student
- Live or attend school in District 7
Stipend:
- Participants will receive a $300 stipend upon completion of the program
