Two years, 250 events, one thriving community
Over the past two years, the Chinatown-Rose Pak Station Upper Plaza has been a stage, a classroom, and a living room for the community. Together with our partners, CYC hosted more than 250 events that transformed the plaza from a busy commuter hub into a true gathering place, alive with the sounds, sights, and spirit of Chinatown.
Some of our most memorable moments have been the ones that brought neighbors and visitors together in unexpected ways. Residents lined up for free Traditional Chinese Medicine consultations, learning time-honored practices from local experts. Lion and dragon dances filled the air with drums and laughter. Children chased bubbles, painted pumpkins, and played games just steps away from where they live. And throughout the year, the plaza blossomed with celebration—lanterns at Mid-Autumn Festival, red envelopes at Lunar New Year, costumes at Halloween, and twinkling lights at Christmas.
None of this would have been possible without the trust and collaboration of our partners: the Office of Economic & Workforce Development, Chinese Newcomers Service Center, Lion Dance Me, Wu Yee, Chinatown YMCA, Gum Moon, Chinatown Community Development Center, Self Help for the Elderly, Chinese Hospital, Yau Kung Moon Tak Fung Kwoon Martial Arts Association, San Francisco Jing Mo Athletic Association, Joe’s Dance Group, and many others. Their energy and dedication turned the station plaza into a place that truly reflects the vibrancy and resilience of Chinatown.
Although our chapter at Chinatown-Rose Pak Station has come to a close, our work in Chinatown is far from over. You’ll find us cultivating the same sense of connection at Willie Woo Woo Wong Clubhouse and bringing joy to Waverly Place with seasonal celebrations. We look forward to writing the next chapter with you—starting with our Halloween Festival on October 28.
