A roaring start to the new year

Chinatown is full of excitement as the community prepares for all the Lunar New Year festivities. During this special time of the year, the neighborhood comes alive with locals and visitors shopping for fresh groceries, decorating their homes and businesses with the good luck colors of red and gold, reconnecting with friends and families, and of course dining at one of the many renowned restaurants in Chinatown.

While Chinatown is getting ready, our youth are also busy getting ready for the grand celebrations, starting this Saturday with the Flower Market Fair, followed two weeks later by the Chinese New Year Parade, in which many youth perform each year. These events are particularly important to AAPI youth to express their cultural pride, and for our many first-generation and second-generation youth and families, they are a treasured way to cultivate a sense of connection and continuity in their new home.

For first time, the Upper Plaza at Rose Pak Station will host new year celebrations. We invite the family to join us at the Upper Plaza for games, a book giveaway, lion dancing, and arts and crafts. Please visit the calendar to view the schedule of events at the Upper Plaza.
