APIYLC provides weekly workshops that encourage leadership development, social awareness, and civic engagement among API youth. These workshops address specific topics such as race and gender, issues in the queer community, mental health awareness, and more. Youth participants gain a more nuanced understanding of their identity as Asian Pacific Americans within the larger context of social justice issues and learn how to be both allies and advocates. Youth will also learn about the ways in which they and their peers can become more engaged in the community and become more active agents in political decision-making processes.
To put these lessons into practice, APIYLC youth are expected to complete a group service learning project as well as develop their own workshop curriculum to present at the annual API Youth Summit.
