Asian Pacific Islander Youth Leadership Council (APIYLC) is a leadership program within the Community Youth Center of San Francisco. APIYLC provides weekly workshops that encourage leadership development, social awareness, and civic engagement in API youth. These workshops will touch on social issues by addressing specific topics such as race and gender, issues in the queer community, mental health awareness, and more. Youth will have a more nuanced understanding of their identity as Asian Pacific Americans within the larger context of social justice issues, and learn how to be both allies and advocates. Youth will also learn about the ways in which they and their peers can become more civically engaged, and hopefully move on to become more active agents in political decision making processes. To put this into practice, APIYLC youth are expected to complete a group service learning project as well as develop their own workshop curriculum to present at the annual API Youth Summit.
